By Usman
On December 25, 2023, my family and I set off on an exciting one-day trip to Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace. This historic site, located in Bangalore, Karnataka, is a fascinating destination that offers a glimpse into the rich history and architectural brilliance of the Mysore Kingdom. Our group consisted of my wife Suneera, our daughters Fathima Haniya and Fadiya Mariyam, my sister-in-law Ayisha, her son Aban Shakir, and my mother-in-law Suhara. This outing promised to be a blend of education, exploration, and family fun.

We started our journey early in the morning, filled with excitement and anticipation. The drive to the palace was smooth and filled with lively conversations and laughter. Fathima and Fadiya were particularly eager to explore the historic site, having heard many stories about Tipu Sultan, also known as the “Tiger of Mysore.” Ayisha and Aban Shakir added to the excitement with their curiosity about the palace’s history, while Suhara enjoyed the scenic drive.
Arrival and Entry
Upon reaching Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, we were greeted by its majestic façade, a beautiful example of Indo-Islamic architecture. The palace authority required online tickets for entry, which we had pre-booked. After a few minutes of waiting at the entrance, we were able to step into the historic site, ready to immerse ourselves in its rich heritage.

Exploring the Palace
As we entered the palace, we were struck by its grandeur and intricate design. The palace, built entirely of teak wood, features beautifully carved pillars, arches, and balconies. The walls and ceilings are adorned with stunning floral motifs and paintings that depict scenes from Tipu Sultan’s era. The girls, Fathima and Fadiya, were fascinated by the intricate artwork and the historical anecdotes associated with each section of the palace.
Ayisha and Aban Shakir, equally captivated, asked numerous questions about the construction and significance of the palace. The guides present at the palace were very informative, providing us with detailed insights into the life of Tipu Sultan and the history of the Mysore Kingdom.

It contains various artifacts, including Tipu Sultan’s clothes, weapons, and coins, as well as detailed paintings and sketches. These exhibits offered us a deeper understanding of Tipu Sultan’s reign and his contributions to the region’s history. Suhara, with her keen interest in history, thoroughly enjoyed exploring the museum and sharing interesting facts with the children.

After exploring the palace interiors, we took a leisurely walk through the surrounding gardens. The lush greenery and well-maintained lawns provided a serene contrast to the palace’s historical grandeur. It was a perfect spot for the children to run around and play while the adults relaxed and took in the tranquil ambiance.
