A Day in Nelliyampathy: Our Family Adventure

On September 9, 2022, my family and I embarked on a delightful one-day trip to the picturesque hills of Nelliyampathy. Nestled in the Western Ghats of Kerala, Nelliyampathy is renowned for its lush greenery, serene landscapes, and cool climate, making it a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. This trip was a memorable experience for me, my wife Suneera, and our two wonderful daughters, Fathima Haniya and Fadiya Mariyam.
The Journey Begins
We set off early in the morning, with everyone excited about the day’s adventure. The drive to Nelliyampathy was nothing short of breathtaking. The winding roads, surrounded by dense forests and tea plantations, provided a scenic backdrop that heightened our anticipation. The girls, Fathima and Fadiya, were particularly thrilled, pointing out the occasional waterfall and the variety of flora and fauna we encountered along the way.
Exploring Nelliyampathy
Upon reaching Nelliyampathy, we were greeted by the cool, refreshing air that the region is famous for. Our first stop was at Seetharkundu Viewpoint, a stunning spot that offers panoramic views of the valley below. The sight of the sprawling greenery and the distant hills was truly mesmerizing. We spent some time here, taking pictures and soaking in the beauty of nature.
Next, we visited the Pothundy Dam, a tranquil spot perfect for a family outing. The reservoir, surrounded by hills, provided a serene setting for a picnic. The girls enjoyed running around and exploring the area, while Suneera and I relaxed and took in the peaceful ambiance.
A Walk Through the Plantations
One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to the tea and coffee plantations. Walking through the neatly lined rows of tea bushes and coffee plants was an enlightening experience. We learned about the cultivation and processing of tea and coffee, and even had the opportunity to sample some freshly brewed beverages. Fathima and Fadiya were fascinated by the process and eagerly asked questions, making it a fun and educational experience for them.
Wildlife Encounters
Our adventure continued with a visit to the Nelliyampathy Forest Reserve. The forest, rich in biodiversity, offered us a chance to see some wildlife. We were fortunate to spot a few animals and birds, much to the delight of Fathima and Fadiya. The girls were particularly excited to see a group of langurs swinging from tree to tree, adding an element of excitement to our forest walk.
A Day to Remember
As the day drew to a close, we made our way back, reminiscing about the wonderful experiences we had shared. The trip to Nelliyampathy was not just a break from routine but a chance to bond as a family amidst the beauty of nature. Suneera and I cherished the smiles and laughter of our daughters, making every moment of the trip special.
Final Thoughts
Nelliyampathy, with its enchanting landscapes and serene environment, proved to be the perfect destination for a family day trip. The memories we created there are ones we will cherish forever.
